ACTIVITIES AND ACHIEVEMENTS IN 2021

Vietnam Clean Water Projects (CWPs):

In 2021, ICI has collaborated with our partners completed 5 clean water projects to provide 5 free purified water systems to support over 1,315 poor households (6,410 villagers) for: 

  1.  Ngọc Năng 2 village,  Đắk Rơ Ông commune, Tu Mơ Rông district, Kontum province (January), supporting 165 poor households(660 villagers), ethnicity: Xê Đăng
  2. Ea Liăng village, Cư Pơng commune, Krông Búk district, Đắk Lăk province (June), supporting 450 poor households(2,300 villagers), ethnicity: Ê Đê
  3. Hiệp Hòa village, Phước Thuận commune, Ninh Phước district,  Ninh Thuận province (November), supporting 300 poor households(1,500 villagers), ethnicity: Chăm & Rắc Lây
  4. Plei Rơ Hai 1 village, Đặng Tiến Đông street, Lê Lợi ward, Kontum province (December), supporting 250 poor households(1,100 villagers), ethnicity: Bahnar
  5. CHIƠ village, IALY commune, Sa Thầy district , Kontum province (December), supporting 150 poor households(850 villagers), ethnicity: Jrai

COVID-19 Relief:

  1.  Đăk Hnăng village, Đăk Tờ Kan commune, Tu Mơ Rông district, Kontum province (September), provided food supply for 200 poor households; ethnicity: Xê Đăng
  2. Diệu Quang Buddha temple, Bình Hưng Hòa B, Bình Tân district (June and November)

  • Provided food supply for 200 poor families, unemployed more than 3 months
  • Provided food supply for 100 homeless families 

ICI & SCA Collaborations:

  • September – provided food supply for orphanage children at Mái Ấm Chùa Phật Bửu 
  • September – provided food supply for poor children and lonely elderly in: Yên Bái, Nghệ An, Kontum, Gia Lai, Buôn Ma Thuột, Đắk Nông,Tây Ninh, Lộc Ninh, Bình Dương, Bển Tre, Rách sỏi, Rạch Giá 
  • October – provided food supply for 200 poor households, ethnicity: Jẻ Striêng, Đăk Glei parish, Kontum diocese, Dak Choong commune, Đăk Glei district, Kontum Province

Vietnam Medical School Grant (VN MSG):

 Provided financial aids for 3 students

CLEAN WATER PROJECTS

 

In 2020, ICI has collaborated with our partners and completed 3 clean water projects to provide 3 free purified water systems to support over 610 poor households (2,750 villagers) for:

  1. Đăk Pơtrang village, Đắk Ha commune, Tu mơ rông district, Kontum province (November 25, 2020): support 160 poor households (750 villagers), ethnicity Xê Đăng
  2. Đắk Neang village, Tu mơ rông commune, Tu mơ rông district, Kontum province (December 12, 2020): support 150 poor households (700 villagers), ethnicity Xê Đăng
  3. Đăk Wet village, Đăk Pxi commune, Đăk Hà district, Kontum province (December 21, 2020): support 300 poor households (1,300 villagers), ethnicity Xê Đăng

February:

Community Cancer Awareness; Education Outreach Event in collaboration with UMES, Maryland Department of Health, and other partners.

March:

Youth Leadership & Service Conference in collaboration with UMCP and other partners.

April 3:

Organized first Cancer Awareness and Education in collaboration with UMES and Montgomery County Health Department.

April 22—27:

Conducted the 2nd Vietnam Public Health & Medical Mission to Kinh 7 Charity Clinic in Kien Giang (southern region) for 1024 patients and to Dak Nong (central highland region) for 986 patients.

May 24:

Organize the 2 nd ICI Vietnam Humanitarian Mission & Internships Fundraising Banquet in Anaheim, CA, with special thanks to Vietnamese Professional Singer Ms. Thien-Kim Tran, for ongoing Vietnam Humanitarian Mission & Internships in collaboration with UMES School of Pharmacy and Health Professions.

June 2:

Organize the 4th Annual Vietnam Humanitarian Mission & Internships Fundraising Banquet in Washington DC Metropolitan to raise funds for Vietnam Public Health &Medical Mission (e.g. Kinh 7 Charity Clinic in Kien Giang) in ongoing collaboration with UMES School of Pharmacy and

Health Professions.

June 12-15:

Puerto Rico Post Hurricane Relief and Medical Mission in collaboration with the Maryland Pharmacists Association, Maryland Pharmaceutical Society and UMES.

August 18:

Completed the clean water project for Bon Bu Lum, Quang Truc, Dak Nong province, Vietnam in collaboration with in-country partner ECDDA 

October 12:

Organized Community Health Event in collaboration with UMES and Montgomery County Health Department.

October 25-31:

Participated in Vietnam Humanitarian Mission with Second Chance Aid (Ngon Nen Tinh Yeu), a partner non-profit organization.

May 20:

Organize the 3rd Annual Vietnam Humanitarian Mission & Internships Fundraising Banquet in Washington DC Metropolitan to raise funds for Public Health and Medical Mission to Vietnam (e.g. Kinh 7 Charity Clinic in Kien Giang) in collaboration with theUniversity of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) School of Pharmacy and Health Professions 

May 27:

Organize the first ICI Vietnam Humanitarian Mission and Internships Fundraising Banquet in Anaheim, CA to raise funds for Public Health and Medical Mission to Vietnam (e.g. Kinh 7 Charity Clinic in Kien Giang) in collaboration with the UMES School of Pharmacy and Health Professions 

June 2:

Organize the first ICI Fundraising Banquet in Gaithersburg, MD to raise funds for Puerto Rico Post Hurricane Relief and Medical Mission in collaboration with 3 schools of pharmacy and 2 pharmacy associations in Maryland 

October 23 to November 1:

Participate in Vietnam Humanitarian/Medical Mission in collaboration with Second Chance Aid (Ngon Nen Tinh Yeu) non-profit organization.

ACTIVITIES and Achievements in 2017

December 11-15:

Organized and conducted the inaugural Public Health and Medical Mission to Kinh 7 Charity Clinic in Kien Giang, Vietnam, in partnership with University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) School of Pharmacy and Health Professions.

The team included healthcare professionals and students in medicine, nursing, pharmacy, and public health in both the United States and Vietnam. These volunteers with experiences and passion in global health collaborated during a weeklong period of service to provide primary care, medication, and health education to individuals living within the districts of Kien Giang. They focused on stroke prevention, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and smoking cessation, the leading causes of death in Vietnam.This academic-community partnership for global health service program had the mission to raise awareness and provide health education through an interprofessional collaboration to enhance healthcare​ access and reduce morbidity and mortality for the Kinh 7 community. Specifically, the goal was to develop, implement, and evaluate a three-pronged approach health program, which included:
          - Training clinic staff for longevity and sustainability
          - Educating the community to promote disease prevention
          - Providing clinical/primary care for patients

​The team was able to achieve the goals as listed above with the following results:
- Trained 44 clinic staff, including physicians, nurses, pharmacists, nutritionists and dieticians, herbalist/traditional medicine technicians, physical therapists, healthcare students, and other staff members on stroke prevention, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and smoking cessation
- Educated 561 individuals in the community through lectures and hands-on activities to increase awareness and increase the ability to recognize risk factors, signs and symptoms, treatment methodologies, and prevention strategies relating to stroke, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and smoking cessation
- Provided primary care appointments and medications for 1320 patients, with an average age of 50 years, and diagnosed with an average of 3 medical conditions 

December 22:

Supported the 2nd Annual Haiti Medical Missions Charity Banquet in collaboration with St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Health and Education for Haiti, and University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) School of Pharmacy and Health Professions which raised $4,851 for Haiti 

August 14-16:

Conducted Health Needs Assessment at Kinh 7 Charity Clinic in Kien Giang, Vietnam to prepare for the Public Health and Medical Mission in December 

August 14:

Completed the Kinh 7 Charity Clinic Renovation Project and participated in the Grand Opening Ceremony of Kitchen Facilityand Lodging Areas for Volunteers in Kien Giang, Vietnam​. Click here for more details.

March 4:

Supported the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) School of Pharmacy – Academy of Student Pharmacists – HaitianOrphanage Philanthropy Evening in Salisbury, MD that raised $3,000 for an orphanage in Leon, Haiti that was severely damaged recently by Hurricane Matthew 

January 15:

Presented at the Annual Tet – Lunar New Year Festival – as an outreach to the Vietnamese community to promote the 2nd Annual Vietnam Humanitarian Mission & Internships Fundraising Banquet

Activities and Achievements in 2016

ICI’s major endeavor has been the Kinh 7 Charity Clinic renovation project in Kien Giang, Vietnam. It is the fast deteriorating conditions and imminent collapse of the clinic’s kitchen facility that makes the renovation a time critical and urgent need for the Kinh 7 community. This 23-year-old kitchen facility also includes lodging space for a coalition of five faith-based volunteer groups. Benefits for the Kinh 7 community include: 
(1) Daily: 250-350 poor patients and their caregivers staying at the clinic
(2) Monthly: charitable works of 10-15 interfaith volunteers serving free meals
(3) Yearly: 15,000 people in the local and neighboring communities 

December 11:

Organized a Holiday Charity Dinner with ICI’s network partners in Atlanta, Georgia and raised $19,500 with an additional $6,500 in pledge for Kinh 7 Charity Clinic renovation project in Kien Giang, Vietnam. 

November 7-8:

Conducted an initial health needs assessment at Kinh 7 Charity Clinic in Kien Giang, Vietnam to prepare for a health needs assessment and medical mission in 2017 in partnership with the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) School of Pharmacy and Health Professions. Also witnessed Kinh 7 Charity Clinic signing contract and ground-breaking for the renovation project. 

October 8:

Supported the Inaugural Haiti Mission Charity Banquet organized by the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Health and Education for Haiti, and University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) School of Pharmacy and Health Professions which raised $8,242 for medical missions in Haiti. 

September 25:

Supported the Annual Benefit Banquet of Viet Aid Fund (Quy Ngheo Nhan Ai) to raise funds for its annual charitable projects. 

May 29 – June 5:

ICI president and pharmacy students participated in a St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church (SFA), Health and Education for Haiti (HeH), and University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) School of Pharmacy and Health Professions Medical Mission Trip to Haiti. 

May 22:

Organized an Inaugural Vietnam Charity Banquet with support from our partner organizations Viet Aid Fund (Quy Ngheo Nhan Ai) and Second Chance Aid (Ngon Nen Tinh Yeu) and raised $41,608 for the Kinh 7 Charity Clinic renovation project in Kien Giang, Vietnam 

May 20:

Started ICI's second water project at the Dak Ya in collaboration with Environment Communication and Community Development Association (ECCDA) to provide fresh water to the Dak Ya ethnic minority community of nearly 5,000 people. This was also a joint project of ICI with the Fondation Amour in Canada. 

May 2:

Selected as a non-profit organization to benefit from the 2016 Annual Golf Classic Tournament Charity Event of the Greater Bethesda-Chevy Chase Chamber of Commerce and Monument Bank and received about $2,700 for ICI programs and operations fund. Specifically, $1,000 was donated to Kinh 7 Clinic to buy wheelchairs and remaining amounts for ICI operational needs. 

April 23:

Presented ICI to a Board member’s network in Atlanta, Georgia and seek support for Kinh 7 Charity Clinic renovation project in Kien Giang, Vietnam. 

March 13:

Completed ICI's first water project at the IA Tiem in collaboration with ECCDA to provide fresh water to the Plei Nu ethnic minority community of nearly 7,000 people. This project also provides basic health education for the community in its native dialect. 

January 30:

Introduced ICI to the Washington DC Metropolitan Vietnamese Community at the 2016 Tet – Lunar New Year Festival.
